HELPING STUDENTS THRIVE IN AN ANXIOUS AGE
Various reports have found a growing “epidemic” of stress, anxiety, and mental health issues in children and teens due to school and economic pressures, violence, abuse, etc. More than 1 in 20 children ages 6-17 (and one in three teens) suffer from anxiety disorders, according to a June 2018 study in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Seventy-one percent of young adults report serious psychological distress and mental health issues and sixty-two percent of college students report significant anxiety, according to the National Survey on Drug Abuse and Health and the American College Health Association. Almost forty-five percent of all children in the US have experienced at least one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), according to a 2016 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH). Discover how toxic stress, anxiety, adversity, and trauma negatively affect developing brains, student behavior, and academic success. This conference will help you reduce anxiety and stress in your schools and practice; address teen depression and challenging classroom behaviors; foster coping, calming, mindful practices; create trauma-sensitive schools; and raise resilience by promoting positive teacher-student relationships.
